King asks politicians to fight terrorists together

1 April 2004

MADRID – King Juan Carlos asked all political parties Thursday for the “closest collaboration” in dealing with Spain’s fight against terrorism.

In a toast proposed while dining with the outgoing government, the King asked all political forces to join together to confront the country’s problems.

But, above all, he asked Spain’s politicians to work together against terrorism.

King Juan Carlos also expressed his gratitude to the cabinet of  José María Aznar for “all their service for Spain” during eight years in power.

Aznar offered his thanks to the King for the “continued example” that he offered for his “daily service for Spain”.

The meal was held in the Royal Palace in Madrid in the presence of Queen Sofia, the Crown Prince Felipe and the members of the cabinet, with exception of former development minister Francisco Alvarez Cascos.
