ALMENDRALEJO – A pensioner was arrested on suspicion of killing his 81-year-old wife five days alter they married, police said Monday.

The murder took place in an old people’s home in Almendralejo, near Badajoz in western Spain.

Police believe the 82-year-old husband stabbed his wife to death in a fit of jealousy.

The husband is thought to have stabbed his wife five or six times during the night.

Her body was found Monday at the home where they lived together.

The couple only got married on 14 January.

The husband had used an old knife, which he owned, to carry out the murder. He offered no resistance when he was arrested by police.

The man told police he had suspicions that his new wife was seeing another man.

The couple had decided to get married at the start of this year.
