International drugs ring smashed: Spanish police

Police in Spain said Wednesday they had smashed an international drugs network and seized a big quantity of synthetic drugs including ecstasy, in an operation described as the biggest in 20 years.

Around 140 kilos (310 pounds) of drugs were found and 20 people arrested including two Spaniards, two French nationals, a Moldavian and two people from Latin America.

The smashing of the network would have ramifications in France, Moldavia, Colombia, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic, a Spanish Civil Guard statement said.

The seizure also included a quantity of amphetamine sulphate or speed.
