Industrial production rises 1.6pc

5 February 2004

MADRID – Rising industrial production in Spain has helped most areas of the economy, the Economics Ministry said Thursday.

But increased levels of output had particularly helped the energy sector, according to a statement by the department.

The government made this brief statement as the Index of Industrial Production rose in the past 12 months by 1.6 percent compared to 2002.

The Economics Ministry said 2003 had ended with a higher rate of industrial production than the year before “in accordance with the major rhythm of the rising of Gross National Product in 2003.”

The figures came from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
