Iberia earnings up 52 percent

MADRID – Spanish airline Iberia reported a 52.1 percent surge in net earnings over the first nine months of the year Friday.

The airline made EUR 166.6 million (USD 212 million) compared with the same period of 2003.

The carrier said sales rose 4.4 percent to EUR 3.589 billion.

Iberia has recently been considering launching a low-cost service in order to compete with major competitors Easyjet and Ryanair, according to reports in the Spanish press.
