Hunt on for killer of teenage girl
4 April 2004
ORIHUELA – A huge police search was underway Sunday for the killer of a 14-year-old Norwegian girl who was sexually abused.
The girl’s corpse was discovered in the southwestern town of Orihuela Friday.
The body of “Sheyla,” an girl of Asian descent, was found early Friday morning on a bank in the housing development of Playa Flamenca de Orihuela-Costa.
Her body had been stripped from the waist down and police said there were signs that she had been sexually assaulted before she was killed.
When the victims parents – an Iraqi father and Malaysian mother, both with Norwegian citizenship – realised their daughter should have been home by that time, they called local police to report her missing.
The crime has generated deep unease in the residential neighborhood where the girl lived.
