Fresh suspect arrested for 11 March attacks

MADRID – Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the Madrid massacre, police said Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested in Illescas, in the province of Toledo, south-west of Madrid.

Police arrested the man, who is Moroccan, Tuesday afternoon.

Sources close to the investigation told EFE news agency that the suspect is thought to be linked to other people arrested in Ugena, also in Toledo.

They also disclosed that he lives in Madrid and works in Illescas.

This brings the number of people arrested in connection with the 11 March bombings to 26.

Fifteen of those are being held in prison.

Meanwhile, the judge presiding over the case, Juan del Olmo, is to interrogate Wednesday a suspect who was arrested in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in north Africa.

Medical authorities said there are still 57 people being treated in Madrid hospitals for serious injuries in relation to the 11 March bombings in which 191 people lost their lives and more than 1,500 were injured.

Two people were said to be in a critical condition and 28 were described as gravely ill.
