BARCELONA – A large forest fire in mountains above Barcelona left parts of the city covered in smoke clouds, fire service sources said Thursday.
Helicopters and firefighters on the ground were trying to bring the blaze under control.
Large clouds of smoke were seen over the Pedralbes area, one of the most exclusive parts of the Catalan capital.
The fire started in the Collserola mountain, near the Carretera de las Aguas de Barcelona above the city.
The cause of the fire was still not known but firefighters said it had been spread by high winds across Barcelona Thursday.
A Fire Service spokesman said only that the blaze was “important” but would not give more details.
No one has been injured.
