Father of singer Julio Iglesias to have son at 87

14 January 2004

MADRID – The father of singer Julio Iglesias is to have a son at the age of 87, it was reported Wednesday.

Julio Iglesias senior — father of crooner Julio — told Spanish magazine Hola! that he and his American wife Ronna Keitt, 40, were expecting a baby boy this spring.

This means Spanish superstar Enrique Iglesias will get a new uncle — the baby of his grandfather.

The news follows Spanish media reports that Keitt had visited a US clinic providing artificial insemination.

The baby boy will be uncle to 10 nieces and nephews, including Enrique, 29.

He will also be a brother to veteran singer Julio junior, now 61, who became famous in the 1970s.

In his interview with Hola!, Julio senior finally confirmed some persistent rumours in the Spanish press of Keitt’s pregnancy.

They had increased since he told reporters his wife was “in the hands of doctors having treatment”, said AFP news agency.

The baby is expected in April.

As a gynaecologist, Julio senior helped deliver the first three of his son Julio’s seven children.

He married Keitt in March 2002, at an intimate ceremony to which not even his children were invited, said the Mural.com news website.
