European nudist cruise to set sail from Barcelona
30 April 2004
BARCELONA – Europe’s first sea cruise exclusively for nudists aboard a luxury liner is to set sail from Barcelona in June.
During the week-long cruise on the liner “Flamenco”, Capt. Nikolaos Elftheriou is to officiate at the wedding of a Madrid couple who will marry in the all-together and a Catalan couple plan to celebrate their golden anniversary.
Koldo Garcia, the vice president of the Association of Basque Nudists which is organising the cruise, said the celebrations will serve “to help normalise the practice of nudism in society…which is the whole point of the trip.”
Prices for the cruise start at EUR 430 with children under 16 free. Passengers are expected to enjoy all the ship’s facilities naked, except the restaurants where for hygiene reasons they must be clothed.
So far, 300 people have signed up for the cruise and Viajes Gheisa, which is handling reservations, says it expects all 800 available spaces to be filled.
The “Flamenco” leaves Barcelona on 14 June and will stop in Ibiza, Sardinia, Corcega, Citavecchia and Nice before returning on 21 June. It is assumed that passengers will get dressed for the shore excursions.
