PARIS – A member of the Basque terrorist group ETA has committed suicide in a French jail, the Basque group Askatasuna said Thursday.

Olhane Errazkin Galdos, 31, killed herself early Thursday inside the Fleury Merogis prison, the group said.

Errazkin was arrested in France in September 2001 and was suspected of working for ETA’s logistics section.

She was awaiting trial on various terrorism-related charges.

ETA, which stands for Basque Homeland and Freedom, has been seeking independence for north-eastern Spain’s Basque region for more than 30 years.

More than 800 people have died in attacks staged by the terrorist group.
