ETA blamed for bomb attack on police station

22 December 2004

ZARAGOZA -The Basque separatist organisation ETA was blamed for a bomb attack on a police station in the eastern city of Zaragoza.

The bomb caused slight damage to the outside of the building but there were no casualties.

The blast happened at about 7.15am on Wednesday outside the Guardia Civil station in the city.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility and there were no warning calls prior to the bombing, which is the usual practice of the Basque separatist group ETA.

But the Spanish Interior ministry later said that it believed ETA was behind the attack.

Police sources said only the family of one Guardia Civil officer were in the building at the time of the explosion.

The family and neighbours in the Luna area of the city where the bombing took place were said to be shocked by the blast.
