3 of the world’s best wines are produced in Jumilla, Spain

More than 13 million users of the Vivino app have cast their votes on which they think are the top 50 best wines in the world for various categories for 2015.

Spanish wines fared best in the “Best Wines for Under 50$” and “Best Wines for Under 25$” categories.

In second place in the “Best Wines for Under 50$” category is the Viña Sastre’s Pago de Santa Cruz Ribera del Duero 2010 red wine, which fell just behind Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 from the United States.

Other Spanish wines that appear within the top 20 in this category are:

  • Rioja El Puntido 2011 (Viñedos de Páganos) at number 7
  • ‘Clio’ Jumilla 2011 (Bodegas El Nido) at number 10
  •  ‘Clio’ Jumilla 2012 (Bodegas El Nido) at number 11
  • Rioja 2011 (Señorío de San Vicente) at number 12
  • Ribera del Duero Reserva 2011 (Carmelo Rodero) at number 19

In the top 50 wines for under 25$ category, a Spanish wine topped the ranking and made the number one position. This red wine is produced by Bodegas Aragonesas and is called Garnacha Fagus de Coto de Hayas 2012. The batch from the previous year, 2011, is ranked at number 16.

In third position, also from Spain, is Vino de la Tierra de Cádiz Taberner 2010, another red wine from Andalucía.

Three Spanish wines have made it into the top 20 best red wines, which is mainly populated by those from Italy and France.

The Único Reserva Especial Ribera del Duero from 1992 (Vega Sicilia) sits in fourth place, followed by Único Reserva Especial Ribera del Duero at number 12 and Único Reserva Especial Ribera del Duero 1996 at number 20.

No Spanish wines have made it into the best white wine or top 50 sparkling wines categories.
