The cheapest airports to fly from in Spain

For this reason, Skyscanner has put together a report detailing the cheapest airports to fly from in Spain, the most affordable destinations to travel to, and the most economical options for travelling.

Most of you are aware that flying from Madrid, for example, does not cost the same as flying from Bilbao, and the majority of airports in Spain charge different prices to fly to the same destination.

On average, if you’re flying out of the capital, it will set you back 168 euro. However, the average cost of a flight from Bilbao is around 260 euro, and that’s even if you’re travelling to the same destination. Be aware that prices can differ by as much as 100 euro as you can see in the table below, which shows the average price of a flight to Europe from each major airport.

Barcelona:                          137 €

Madrid:                              168 €

Palma de Mallorca:             174 €

Málaga:                              189 €

Valencia:                            193 €

Alicante:                             212 €

Santiago de Compostela:    220 €

Gran Canaria:                     244 €

Bilbao:                               260 €

According to Skyscanner, the cheapest airport to fly out of Spain to the top European destinations is Barcelona, with flights costing on average 137 euro. As you can see above, the most expensive is Bilbao, with Alicante, Santiago de Compostela, Gran Canaria and Bilbao all charging more than 200 euro from their average flights.

The comparison website has also analysed flight prices for the top European destinations, including London, Paris, Rome, Dublin, Amsterdam, Milan and Brussels, and has discovered that there is as much as a 250-euro difference in prices when travelling to the same destination depending on which airport you fly from.

For example, flying to London is cheapest going from Madrid, while travelling to Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Milan or Brussels is the most economical from Barcelona. So, why is there so much difference between prices? Well, the number of airports that operate a certain route coupled with the existence of low-cost airlines in those airports has an impact when it comes to offering the best price.

In fact, many of Spain’s major cities rely on secondary, smaller airports from which many flights are generally more affordable.

For this reason, it’s always a good idea to check the prices of flights for nearby airports, as it is here that you might find the best prices.

And, the same way that some airports are cheaper to fly out of than others, the same goes for flying into Spain from various European destinations. The cheapest is Madrid, followed by Barcelona, Seville, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, Bilbao, Málaga, Alicante and Murcia.
