Property purchases rise 29% in April

Published on 13/06/2016

And you’re not about to read one now.

In fact, the news just keeps getting better and better. The latest report from the National Statistics Institute (INE) has revealed that a total of 35,199 properties were sold in April. This is 29% more than for the same month during the previous year, with sales rising for both re-sales and new builds.

In addition, this is the best figure registered in the last three years, and the 29% annual rise is the highest since August 2010.

The data issued by the INE was taken from figures collected by the Property Registry offices, which may differ from other sources due to the time frame.

This is the first time in the last 24 months that positive figures have been given for new-build properties, which saw sales falling continuously during this time.

In April, property purchases involving new builds went up 17.6% annually and registered 7,171 transactions.

And, the number of purchases involving second-hand properties also rose by a massive 32.3%, registering a total of 28,028 operations, with figures rising for 26 consecutive months.

With regards to property purchases for the first four months of 2016, sales have gone up 13.8% from the same period last year.

The biggest increases in property purchases annually have been registered in the Balearic Islands (+61.7%) and Galicia(+51.6%). The lowest rises were registered in the Canary Islands (+2%) and the Basque Country (+12%).
