Petrol prices rise after six weeks in descent

This is after we have enjoyed relatively low fuel prices throughout the summer, with the price of diesel falling for the previous five weeks and the price of petrol for the last six.

For the first time in a month and a half, a litre of diesel now costs more than 1 euro. It is now priced at 1,003 euro a litre, when last week it registered at 0,996 euro per litre. This is a rise of 0.76% in just seven days.

Nevertheless, the good news is that the cost of filling up your vehicle with diesel is 8.4% cheaper than it was 12 months ago, although it is still 10.3% more expensive than in January this year, when a minimum of 0,909 euro/litre was recorded.

With regards to petrol, the second favoured fuel by Spanish motorists, a litre now costs 1,132 euro, which is 0.88% more than the 1,122 euro/litre recorded a week ago.

This year, the minimum price for petrol was recorded in March, at 1,065 euro a litre, and since then it has risen 6.3%. Despite this, the average price for petrol is 9.6% less than it was 12 months ago.

With current prices, it will cost 62,3 euro to fill up a car with a 55-litre tank, and 55,16 euro to fill up the same sized tank with diesel.

This rise in petrol prices in Spain coincides with the increase in the price of crude Brent oil, which went up to 50 dollars a barrel from 43 dollars.

But, fuel prices are still much cheaper in this country than in other parts of Europe. The average price of petrol in the EU currently sits at 1,269 euro a litre and at 1,306 euro a litre in the euro zone.
