How much does the average Spaniard spend a year on beer and how many litres is that?

This works out as 3.4% of the total for the whole world, meaning that each Spaniard invests 283,67 euro a year of his money into the golden alcoholic drink made from barley, yeast and hops.

According to the report published by the Constanza Business & Protocol School, the autonomous regions in which the most amount of money is spent on beer coincides with the most populous regions: Andalucía (2.2 billion euro), Cataluña (2.2 billion euro), Madrid (1.9 billion euro) and the Valencia Region (1.5 billion euro).

Nevertheless, it is the inhabitants of the following regions that spend the most amount of money on beer per person: Madrid(300,58 euro per person), Valencia (300,13 euro per person), Cataluña (296,85 euro per person), Balearic Islands (295,04 euro per person) and the Canary Islands (292,49 euro per person).

With regards to the consumption of the golden nectar, a total of 3.5 billion litres are consumed a year in this country. This is the equivalent of 17,543 ‘cañas’ or 10,632 cans of beer.

The regions in which the greatest volume of beer is consumed are Andalucía, Cataluña, Madrid and the Valencia Region, with figures of 592, 592, 516 and 400 million litres of beer consumed respectively.

Therefore, calculations have revealed that each Spaniard consumes a total of 76 litres of beer a year, which is the equivalent of 378 ‘cañas’ or 229 cans.

On a global level, Spain is one of the most important markets with regards to beer consumption. Spaniards are the fifth greatest consumers of the drink in the world.

Their love of beer is so great that even throughout the economic crisis consumption levels didn’t falter, and it is expected that consumption will continue in the same vein for years to come.

On an international level, the countries that spend the most amount of money on beer are China, United States, Germany, United Kingdom and Russia.

However, per person, the greatest amount of money is spent in Ireland, Norway, Australia, the UK and Germany.

Finally, regarding beer consumption, the highest figures are registered in China, the United States, Brazil, Germany and Russia.
