British consulate organises informal talk on Brexit tomorrow in Alicante

Some are of the opinion that not much will change due to the fact that Spain will not want to lose the income earned through tourism and property in particular, while others are fearful that they might have to return to their country of birth for whatever reason.

What is clear is that no one knows what is going to happen, and many are worried.

This is why the British Consulate in Alicante is holding an informal informative talk that will be directed to the British residents that live in the province tomorrow morning.

Officials have said that they want to transmit a message of calmness to residents and British tourists that visit the area.

Minister-Councelor of the British Consulate in Spain Tim Hemmings, British Consulate Sarah-Jane Morris, specialist lawyers in International Law and representatives of entities such as the Provincial Association of Hotels in Alicante will participate in the talk and give information about the consequences of Brexit and the new situation that we find ourselves in.

According to official sources, a total of 86,685 British residents have signed on the electoral register (padrón) in Alicante. This makes it the Spanish province with the highest number of British people living in it, as this figure represents 31% of the total.

In fact, a total of 28 municipalities in Spain have a percentage of 20% or more of Brits living in them, with some reaching as much as 50%. Some of the towns with the greatest number of British residents include: Algorfa (52%), Llíber (46%), Daya Vieja (43%) and San Fulgencio (42%).

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Tuesday 19 July in the meeting room of the Instituto Pedro Herrero, Calle Ramón Campoamor, 25, San Juan de Alicante, and it is open to the public.
