MADRID — The lucky first prize winners of the El Gordo lottery bought their tickets in the town of Vic, in Catalonia.
The winning number was 20085 which was traced to the town outside Barcelona.
The owner or owners of this series of numbers stand to win EUR 3 million.
Unlike, other lotteries people buy a series of numbers so there is no single winner.

The second prize number was 28150; third prize was 07494; fourth prize was 84,003; and the fifth prize winners were 25944, 68395, 14431, 18486, 12741, 53863, 76734 and 32474.
The second prize ticket, with a pay-off of EUR 1 million, was bought in Valencia.
The third prize winner, who will pick up EUR 500,000, bought their ticket in Mataro near Barcelona.
In traditional fashion, a choir of girls from the San Ildefonso Eliana Gonzaga y Aranzazu college near Madrid sang all the numbers during the three-hour draw.
Sales for El Gordo rose over 8 percent this year compared with last year. Over 2.57 million people bought a ticket.
Gamblers in Madrid bought the most tickets, followed by Catalonia, then Valencia and Andalusia.
In terms of money spent per person, people spent the most in Lerida in Catalonia because it includes the town Sort which means luck in Catalan and which has a record for winning.
The children pick the numbers from a huge globe and sang them before presenting them to the officials.
Hopefuls came from all over Spain to see the event, which is broadcast live on television.
El Gordo had a record prize of EUR 2 billion this year.
