MADRID – A Spanish court released on Monday for lack of evidence a Moroccan citizen arrested last week for alleged ties to three of the men implicated in the March 11 train bombings in this capital.
Younes Alouia was originally suspected of involvement in hashish-dealing activities with three of the suspected authors of the attacks who, along with four others, blew themselves up April 3 in an apartment in the Madrid suburb of Leganes as police moved in.
Alouia told the court he was a car salesman.
To date, Judge Juan del Olmo has taken statements from 41 people suspected of being linked to the blasts, 14 of whom remain behind bars charged with a variety of crimes in connection with the massacre.
The attacks, blamed on Islamic extremists linked to Al Qaeda, killed nearly 200 people and injured some 1,500.
