Costa killer convicted of murder of Spanish teenager

13 December 2006

MALAGA — The so-called Costa killer Tony King has been convicted of the murder of a second Spanish teenager.

King, who is serving 36 years for the murder of Sonia Carabantes, was found guilty on Wednesday of murdering Rocio Wanninkhof in October 1999.

He was found guilty by a jury vote of seven to two.

But King was not convicted of the offence of sexual assault.

It seems unlikely King will ever emerge from prison.

The case has horrified Spain since King’s arrest in 2003 for the two murders.

It later emerged he had a history of sexual attacks on women in London dating back to the 1980s.

The jury in Malaga rejected King’s defence that he had been suffering from mental illness at the time of Wanninkhof’s death in Mijas near Malaga.

The prosecutor asked for King to serve 26 years in jail.

King is also serving another seven years for the rape of a woman in Benalmádena, near Malaga in 2001.
