CORRECTED: Boat carrying nearly 300 migrants arrives in Spain’s Canary islands: rescuers

A boat carrying 280 migrants landed Tuesday in Spain’s Canary Islands, having crossed one of the most dangerous migratory routes, a rescue organisation told AFP.

Among the migrants were two women, 268 men and 10 minors, the rescue service said, adding it was the largest number of passengers to ever make the crossing in a single boat at a time when the number of arrivals to the archipelago, a gateway for migrants to Europe, has spiked.
