ALBARRACIN – The Prince and Princess of Asturias continued their very public honeymoon Monday with a visit to monuments in Albarracin.
The arrival of the couple in the tiny town to the east of Madrid was met by cheering crowds.
The couple visited Cuenca to the south-east of Madrid Sunday on the first part of their honeymoon.
They will then travel to Zaragoza in eastern Spain, from where they will take a plane to Jordan Tuesday to take part in the wedding of Prince Hamza, of Jordan.
Prince Hamza was one of the 1,400 guests at the Royal Wedding in Madrid Saturday.
The Prince and Princess wanted to visit places in Spain of particular historical interest during their honeymoon.
A Royal spokesman said the couple wanted to see places of artistic and cultural interest because “few countries can offer such riches as Spain”.
In a break with tradition, they have chosen to stay in publicly-owned Paradors, or hotels.
A crowd of about 200 gathered as the couple left the Parador where they stayed in Cuenca Monday morning.
The couple had their photographs taken in the famous Casas Colgadas in Cuenca.
Dressed casually in jeans and sports gear, the pair looked relaxed as they visited the church of San Julián, patron of the city.
After visiting the Nacional Monument in Albarracin, a town of only 1,000 people, the couple planned to travel to Zaragoza to visit the church of the Virgen of El Pilar.
Aides said they were expected to spend a quiet night on their own in Zaragoza.
