MARBELLA — Tony King, the Briton accused of the double murder of two Spanish women, is to appear as a witness in a missing person case.
King is accused of killing Rocio Wanninkhof and Sonia Carabantes in a case which has outraged the nation. The 38-year-old was arrested in November 2003 for the murders of the two women.
Carabantes, 17, was killed in the early hours of 14 August 2003 as she was on way home from a village fete in Coin, near Rodeo de Marbella.
Wanninkhof disappeared on 9 October 1999. Her body was found later and a murder investigation was opened.
King, who moved to Spain nine years ago, had previously alleged that a friend, Robert Graham, had killed Wanninkhof as part of a mafia plot relating to land deals.
Dolores Vazquez, an acquaintance of Wanninkhof, was convicted of her killing initially but the court ordered a retrial, judging the conviction unsafe after DNA testing showed up links between both that killing and that of Carabantes.
Graham was questioned and initially accused of providing a false alibi for King, but then freed as a statute of limitations had run out.
King is expected to stand trial next year.
He was expected to appear in court in Marbella on Tuesday in relation to the disappearance of a young person who went missing in Cabo Pino, on the Costa del Sol ten years ago.
King has been called because of his earlier appearance in court in Motril, Granada, in relation to the disappearance of Maria Teresa Fernandez on 18 August 2000.
It is claimed he said he would make a former friend Robert Graham “pay” for what “for what he did to Rocio and the girl from Motril”.
During a court appearance last October, King also referred to the disappearance of Jose Manuel Lopez Martin in 1995.
The lawyer for the family of Martin, Rosario Gomez Bravo, had asked for King to appear in court in relation to his comments.
Martin, who was aged 23, disappeared in 1995 when he was going to the University of Malaga from the bus station in Marbella.
He called to tell his sister that he was nervous on the day he disappeared.
