British woman dies after broken glass cut

Nerja – A British woman bled to death after she fell on an outdoor table at a cafe in southern Spain and cut herself on a glass cup which shattered underneath her, a local government spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The 42-year-old was having drinks with friends at an outdoor terrace at the "Balcony of Europe", a rocky promontory in Nerja in southwestern Spain that offers sweeping views of the coast, when she fell over a table just after midnight on Sunday, the spokeswoman for the Nerja municipal government said.

She suffered a cut to her underarm from the broken glass. Her friends and cafe employees tried to stop the bleeding but she died after arriving at hospital from heart failure brought on by the loss of blood.

It was not immediately known what caused her to fall. Police are investigating the incident.

Spanish authorities did not name the woman but local newspaper Diario Sur identified her as Sally Feelly, a hairdresser with a 14-year-old son who had lived in Nerja for several years.
