British expat recovering after Marbella shooting

28 August 2006

MARBELLA — A British expat was gunned down in Marbella, it was reported on Monday.

Cameron Bell, 43, was hit by a single shot near the resort´s five-star Incosol Hotel, the Scottish Sunday Mail reported.

Bell, who was released from hospital on Saturday, is from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, but now lives on the Costa del Sol.

He was found in the early hours of Saturday on waste ground.

A police spokesman said: “His injuries are not life-threatening but his condition was serious. He was shot in the abdomen.” A local said: “He was well-known in the area. He’d often lunch in upmarket restaurants in Puerto Banus with a girlfriend.

“He’d drive a Range Rover one day and a powerful motorbike the next.

“He’s a champion kickboxer apparently and by all accounts a very nice guy.”

The shooting, on Saturday, is the third this year in the area involving a British victim.

Earlier this year, Pat McCadden, from Glasgow, was arrested over the shooting of a Spanish police officer, but has since been bailed.

A man from Manchester was also shot by accident in February.
