Batten down the hatches: wild weather warning

MADRID-An extreme weather warning was issued as high winds, heavy rain and snow are expected to hit some northern parts of the country by tomorrow, according to Spain’s national Meteorological Institute.

Rainfall could reach up to 60 litres per square metre in Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country by Wednesday.

Heavy snowfalls were also expected in Aragon, Huesca, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Catalonia, La Rioja and Navarra, with up to 10 centimetres in the next 24 hours.

Heavy winds are also expected in Asturias, the Canary Islands, Catalonia and the Basque Country, with flurries reaching between 75-100kmh.
