Award-winning composer Iglesias wins top prize

4 September 2007

MADRID – Oscar-nominated composer Alberto Iglesias has been awarded Spain’s 2007 National Film Award.

The BBC reported Iglesias was honoured for his “inspirational” career, which includes the soundtracks for Pedro Almodovar’s Volver, and All About My Mother.

He was nominated for an Oscar in 2005 for his work on The Constant Gardener.

Iglesias was born in 1955 in the northern Spanish city of San Sebastian – known for its annual film festival – where he studied music.

Iglesias is currently in Los Angeles, where he has been working on Marc Forster’s forthcoming film The Kite Runner.

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Afghani-American author Khaled Hosseini.
