Business people who support South Africa’s ruling African National Congress will see their companies grow, President Jacob Zuma has said, according to a Sunday report.
“We’re not forcing people. … You can support and be a supporter, but if you go beyond that and become a member, (and) if you’re a businessman, your business will multiply,” Zuma was quoted as saying in the Sunday Times.
“Everything you touch will multiply. I’ve always said that a wise businessperson will support the ANC … because supporting the ANC means you’re investing very well in your business,” he said at the party’s 101st anniversary gala dinner on Friday.
High-flying entrepreneurs such as billionaire Patrice Motsepe paid up to 600,000 rand ($69,000, 52,000 euros) for a seat at the banquet, which raised 21.4 million rands ($2.5 million, 1.8 million euros) for the party, the newspaper reported.
