The family of South African model Reeva Steenkamp is mulling legal action against her sprinter boyfriend Oscar Pistorius who shot her dead last month, their lawyer said Friday.
Attorney Mike Venter said a civil claim was being considered against the Paralympian who has been charged with murdering Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine’s Day.
A source close to the family said no decision had yet been taken.
The double amputee has been charged with premeditated murder over the killing of 29-year-old Steenkamp.
Pistorius, 26, has admitted to firing several shots at her through a locked bathroom door at his Pretoria home but says he mistook her for an intruder.
He was granted bail last month and will return to court in June.
The Steenkamp family have kept a low profile since their daughter’s death amid a media frenzy over the case.
