‘Snakes on a Plane’ director dies in S. Africa

David R. Ellis, the American director of the 2006 thriller “Snakes on a Plane,” has died in South Africa, police said Tuesday.

The body of the 60-year-old former stuntman was found in a bathroom on Monday by management of a hotel in Johannesburg’s upscale neighbourhood of Sandton.

A full autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, but the cause of death remained unknown, police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini said.

“Nothing was found to be missing from his room and no foul play is being suspected at this stage.”

Ellis was in South Africa for pre-production work for a new film “Kite.”

Actor Samuel L. Jackson, who was to star in the new movie, tweeted: “He’ll be missed. Gone too soon!”
