S.African youth leader Malema guilty in ruling ANC hearing

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress has found its controversial youth leader Julius Malema guilty of disrupting a national meeting, the head of a disciplinary hearing said Thursday.

“The act of going to a meeting of the national officials uninvited constitutes a breach” of ANC rules, Derek Hanekom told a news conference as began reading out the series of charges against Malema and five other senior members of the Youth League.

“Ill-discipline is not a cure for frustration,” Hanekom said. “Such disobedience undermined the effectiveness of the ANC.”

The ruling on other more serious charges, including “sowing divisions” within the party, was still being read out.
