S.African woman under house arrest for high-heel shoe attack

A South African woman has been placed under house arrest after she was found guilty of assaulting another woman with a high-heeled shoe at a nightclub over a missing bracelet, media reported Friday.

The Pretoria District Court found Meryl Lotriet, 23, guilty of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm and sentenced her to 18-months of house arrest, for attacking Nelly Dean, 41, in 2010, according to the Beeld newspaper.

Lotriet squirted pepper spray on Dean’s face, before she lunged at her with a shoe.

A doctor’s reports showed that Dean suffered deep cuts on her chest and abdomen one of which was 8cm long.

The court also slapped Lotriet with a year in prison, suspended for five years, and told her to do 16-hours of community service a month, for the next two years.

She was also ordered to pay Dean’s monthly salary of 25,000 rand (3,326 dollars) to compensate for the loss of income she suffered while recovering from her injuries.
