SAfrican president condemns Christmas attacks in Nigeria

South African President Jacob Zuma condemned the Christmas Day bombings in Nigeria that killed at least 40 people, in a statement released by his office.

Zuma had sent his “heartfelt condolences” to Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan and especially to the families of those killed or wounded in the attacks, said the statement, issued late Monday.

Recalling his recent visit to Nigeria to develop closer ties, Zuma added: “South Africa will work with Nigeria, within the ambit of the African Union, to rid the continent of terrorism and other related ills.”
