SA marks 24 years since Mandela’s release from prison

Twenty-four years ago today, on 11 February 1990, Nelson Mandela left Victor Verster Prison in Cape Town a free man after 27 years in prison. He went on to play the lead role in steering South Africa to its first free elections in 1994, in the process becoming the country's first democratically elected president.
