Foreign ministers from the regional Southern African Development Community will meet Sunday evening to discuss unrest in Lesotho, the South African government said.

“This is a meeting called by South Africa in its capacity as chair to discuss the latest developments in Lesotho,” foreign ministry spokesman Clayson Monyela told AFP, referring to the Pretoria talks.

South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe will discuss the Lesotho military’s brief seizure Saturday of police stations and their surrounding of Prime Minister Tom Thabane’s official residence which sent him fleeing the country.

Thabane termed the operation a “coup”, saying he feared for his life.

His deputy Mothetjoa Metsing told AFP earlier Sunday he has traveled to South Africa for talks with President Jacob Zuma.
