One mineworker was killed and three others injured in an accident Saturday at Lonmin’s Marikana platinum mine in South Africa, the firm said in a statement.
“It was a mine accident,” Lonmin spokeswoman Sue Vey told AFP in a text message.
“The incident is still however being investigated so we don’t have much more at the moment,” she added.
The platinum mine was the scene of deadly clashes between strikers and police last year.
Officers shot dead 34 people at the mine in one day after angry strikers killed ten people the week before.
