Robbers in South Africa have made off with 168 diamond-and-gold encrusted pens worth over two million dollars from a collector's house in Johannesburg's upmarket suburb of Sandton, police and insurers said Thursday.

The 20-million-rand ($2.2 million, 1,6 million euro) pens “are collector items and are unique”, insurer John Pearson told SAPA.

But, he warned, it will be impossible to sell the pens.

“They have unique serial and reference numbers.”

Police confirmed the theft of the pens which were taken from display in a snooker room at the house on Tuesday.
