Cashier in France sacked for 60 cents wins EUR 17,000

PARIS – A supermarket clerk sacked over a 60-euro-cent discrepancy in her till takings has won over EUR 17,000 in damages from her employer, both sides said Thursday.

The woman, who worked in an ATAC store in central France, was sacked in February 2008, but won her case for "dismissal without a real and serious reason," securing EUR 17,380 in total.

The case centred on a 60-cent credit to a loyalty card in her name, which she blamed on her ex-husband, who had not returned the card.

The company said it would not appeal the decision.
