Global cultures event in York

Taking place inside giant PapaKata teepees, Jamia is a showcase of music, poetry, dance, and song to be held at Deans Park – outside York Minster on the 9 December 2009. The event is organised by ‘International Service‘ a development agency combating poverty and oppression.

Performers are drawn from across York and Yorkshire representing the wide array of global cultures and traditions on our very own doorstep.

Not only is this event a vibrant addition to the festive season in York, it also provides people with a space where they can take a moment step outside their Christmas preparations, see some fantastic performances, and reflect on the world that we are all a part of.

From 11am – 4pm, Jamia is a free public event.

From 7pm – 10pm, Jamia is a ticket-only evening event that includes supper, a drink on arrival, and a special programme of entertainment.
The teepees truly come into their own at night. Cosy, warm, and lit by lanterns – what better place to spend an evening with friends old and new?
