British woman’s husband charged with murder in France

The husband of a 51-year-old British woman who was found dead with a cracked skull on a remote French road has been charged with her murder, an official said Thursday.

Susan White’s body was found on a road in Brittany on Monday near the village of Tregonneau where she lived with her husband David.

David White was charged with murder after being questioned by police during which he was incoherent in his testimony, local prosecutor Gerard Zaug said. He was released but with restrictions on his movement.

Traces of blood have been found near a van belonging to David White, according to investigators. According to British newspapers, Susan White — who was originally from Devon — had lived in France for the past seven years.

Brittany has a large expatriate British community.
