Heritage Open Days celebrates some of Britain’s extraordinary architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. The annual event runs for four days in September, and many buildings of different historical periods and styles open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples.
Around one million people are expected to visit thousands of properties across the country and discover hidden architectural treasures which bring local history and culture to life. 90 per cent of the UK population live within 30 minutes of a Heritage Open Days event.
Heritage Open Days is part of European Heritage Days, taking place during September as part of a mass celebration of Europe’s cultural heritage.
