Air traffic controller strike hits Portugal flights

A strike by air traffic controllers in Portugal on Friday led to flight delays and cancellations, Portugal Airport (ANA) said.

The limited strike was expected to lead to the cancellations of some 70 flights and delays to 300 more, it added.

The strike was called by five unions representing air traffic controllers who are protesting budget cuts and changes to their work rules.

The strike action involves controllers stopping work three times during the day, for two-hour periods.

Unions have warned of further similar action on May 17, 18, 24, and 25.
