A nasty spate of violent robberies in Olhão has been stopped after the Special Security Police identified and moved in on various suspects.
The Police caught one ringleader, a 34-year-old Portuguese man who already has served time for violent and serious crimes. He has been remanded in custody until his trial.
Following an extremely violent robbery of a householder in her 60s, a PSP patrol in Olhão intercepted, almost in flagrante delicto, the two women suspected of carrying out the crime. Both immediately were arrested and the Police recovered €200 and other stolen items from the vicious robbery.
On Thursday, continuing the war on drugs, the PSP and a crack Rapid Intervention Team from Faro joined forces to execute two search warrants.
This operation resulted in the seizure of cash, cocaine and various stolen items. An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of involved in the supply of drugs directly to consumers.
“With this police operation, the Faro District Command believes it has dealt a severe blow to those involved in crime, reinforcing public safety for the city’s community and visitors,” read the PSP statement.
