Querença sausage festival livens up the village

querencaOn January 20, Querença, a village in the Loulé countryside, once again is hosting its traditional beano, in honour of S. Luís – a religious sausage-fest that includes evening music.

The events kicks off on Saturday, January 19th, with a grand fado night at the Casa do Povo de Querença, starting at 9:00 p.m.

Fadistas Pedro Viola, Teresa Viola and Filipa Nobre accompanied by Valentim Filipe and Tó Correia, will keep the crowds from freezing over.

On Sunday, the 20th, from 11:00 am and continuing all afternoon, visitor will be encouraged to munch on sausages roasted in various of Querença beaneries, with the focus being the Largo da Igreja area.

The religious celebration will begin at 2:30 pm, with Mass in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, presided over by Father Carlos Matos, which will be followed by the procession behind the image of S. Luís.

At 4:00 p.m., the lively chorizo ??auction will begin, where the general public will be able to bag some fine examples of rustic sausage.

At 5:00 p.m., there will be a performance from the Alentejo singers from Mértola. From 7:00 p.m., the accordionist Paulo das Vacas will liven up the Casa do Povo de Querença.

Throughout, there will be an exhibition and sale of handicrafts and local products, rounding off one of the best gastronomic festivals in the region.
