97lick killerThe 21-year-old man who, on 23 August last year shocked many after shooting and killing young Paderne local Lucas Leote, at the Lick nightclub, near Boliqueime, was arrested today on the outskirts of Paris. The Judiciary Police (PJ) recalls that the suspect fled the scene of the murder “immediately after the crime was committed”, with information immediately emerging that he had left Portugal.

Through its investigation, the PJ ended up locating the suspect “on the outskirts of Paris, where he was eventually arrested today by members of the Central Directorate of the French Judicial Police, at the request of the Portuguese authorities and in the presence of elements from the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police”, from the Algarve.

The detainee, suspected of a qualified homicide, will now be handed over to the Portuguese authorities in order to be subjected to judicial interrogation for the application of enforcement measures.

The inquiry is directed by the Public Ministry of the Loulé Section of the DIAP of Faro. The victim of this crime was Lucas Leote, who was then 19 years old, having been fatally hit by a projectile fired by a firearm. Allegedly, the young man, who was “one of the most promising musicians” of the Paderne Philharmonic Orchestra, in the village in the municipality of Albufeira where he lived, was mistakenly hit in the head by gunshots intended for one of the security guards at the Lick nightclub.

The victim was part of the nightclub staff, but not of the security body, and happened to be stationed outside the space placing access bracelets on customers. In the end, he was shot by the murderer after he had been barred at the entrance to the club some time before by security staff.

The murderer, who fled the scene was identified by several employees of the nightclub who knew him, taking into account that according to press, he was the boyfriend of a former nightclub worker. The motorcycle on which the murderer escaped on was later found abandoned, and was in the girl’s name.
