Precautionary measures delay Praia de Faro campsite renovations even further

Construction work to improve the campsite in Praia de Faro is no longer expected to start on 1st of October, as planned, due to a Providence Provision that was presented by the Praia de Faro Camping Users and Friends Association (AUAPCPF), who have disturbed the renovation process for over a year now.

The mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, revealed that he received the court notification yesterday, on Thursday, and that “it will probably be difficult to start on October 1”, next Tuesday.

“The Providence Provision notice was delivered in the court yesterday but I have not seen it, because I was away. I will still have to see the deadlines, but it will probably be difficult to start on 1st of October, because now we will have a period to make our allegations and there will be a decision later. As far as I know, the notice was admitted to court on Thursday last week,”said the mayor.

The lawsuit was filed by AUAPCPF, which refuses to leave the space because, allegedly, the Faro Chamber did not create the necessary conditions to do so.

This is despite the fact that the lending agreement that framed the permanence of current users in the park was terminated over a year ago, and they have since been given time well beyond what is required by law for the residents to remove their belongings.

This time was insufficient, say the association’s leaders, because they claim that there are social cases of people who will be left homeless and that there are motorhomes that cannot leave the campsite, because they do not fit over the bridge.

As for Faro Council, they ensured, following the announcement by residents that they would not leave and would instead be going to court, that it would not alter even “one millimetre” its decision to evict current users and to reconstruct the campsite.

However, Rogério Bacalhau that there are some residents who have disagreed with the current position of the association, and have said that they will leave the space by the end of September.

“Yesterday, a letter came to me from a campsite user saying that he had already taken everything, had left the association and had nothing to do with it. On the weekend I also met several users who told me they are going to be leaving also,” said the mayor of Faro.
