Portuguese Police join international team in Dark Web arrests

6208aPolice arrest five people in Portugal as part of an international operation to shut down those selling illegal products on the Dark Web

The operation took place in several countries, with a total of 61 suspects being detained and 50 accused of being involved in various illegal activities on the Dark Web.

Some 295.5 kilos of various drugs were seized and more than €6.2 million, of which about €4 million were crypto coins, €2.2 million in cash and €35,000 in gold.

In Portugal, the Judicial Police detained five suspects allegedly involved in criminal activity.

The Judicial Police were part of an international operation involving Europol and several police forces from EU Member States, the US and Canada, whose objective was to identify potential sellers and buyers of illegal products through the Dark Web.

The Judicial Police arrest the suspects for drug trafficking, seizing ecstasy and LSD.

The authorities advise Portuguese citizens not to use the Dark Web in any circumstance because of the high risk of having personal data exposed and being victims of fraud.
