Portuguese land borders with Spain remain closed until 15 June

40spanish bordersThe land borders between Portugal and Spain will remain closed until 15 June due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Portuguese Council of Ministers’ resolution published last Wednesday (13 May).

The control of the land borders between the countries from the Iberian Peninsula has, since 16 March, been at nine authorized crossing points due to the pandemic. This control was supposed to end at the end of last week (14 May).

However, the Council of Ministers’ resolution extends the control measures until 15 June, “as an exceptional and temporary measure”. Commercial flights between the countries will remain suspended.

Portugal was in a state of emergency for 45 days, between 19 March and 2 May. In Spain, last week the government announced that its own state of emergency would be extended by another two weeks until 24 May.
