The alert was given at 15:39 on Thursday afternoon and the Portimão to Lagos line was shut down while an investigation was started.

The Lagos Bombeiros, an INEM team and GNR attended the scene, reminiscent of a death last May when a woman was hit by a train in the same area and immediately was killed.

The 60-year-old British woman was on holiday in the region and was hit by the westbound service.
